Mission

Waldo County Bounty’s mission is to work to ensure that everyone has access to fresh, nutritious food by collaborating with local farmers, organizations, and community members towards an equitable food system.

Our Story

The founding members of Waldo County Bounty were concerned citizens who were already working in the food, agriculture, human services, and nonprofit sectors. Waldo County Bounty quickly established strategic partnerships with other nonprofits and businesses .

We joined forces with Daybreak Growers Alliance, Veggies For All, and UMaine Cooperative Extension to develop the Farm-to-Pantry, Gleaning, and Gardening programs, respectively. What began as a small team transformed into a countywide network with capabilities to buy and distribute locally grown food, glean and share crops, and provide gardening resources for people experiencing food insecurity in Waldo County.

Though the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have dissipated, our local food insecurity challenges have not gone away. According to Waldo Community Action Partners (WaldoCAP), 19.5% of people of all ages in Waldo County experience food insecurity. Waldo County Bounty has increased local awareness of chronic hunger and the enduring need for better local solutions to alleviate food insecurity.
