Waldo County Food Council
The Waldo County Food Council works to make the Waldo County food system healthier, more just, and more sustainable for all. Founded in 2025 by Waldo County Bounty, the Waldo County Food Council fulfills several essential functions:
routinely convenes entities across the local food system, from food pantries and farmers to nonprofits, emergency responders, and community service providers, for improved cooperation on shared goals. This includes, when necessary, formulating a coordinated response to emergencies impacting the local food system.
supports local food security for everyone in Waldo County through the numerous ongoing partnerships and collaborations related to WCB’s core programming, including Farm-to-Pantry, Veggies For All Gleaning, Give & Take Stands, and the WCB County Garden Plot.
raises awareness of important causes and policies affecting the Waldo County food system through the WCB newsletter, social media platforms, and other communications.
The Waldo County Food Council was founded by Waldo County Bounty with ongoing support from the Maine Network of Community Food Councils, which has shepherded the creation of food councils across Maine. As a member of MNCFC, WCB has a seat at the table with partners statewide with opportunities to learn from other food councils with the goals of improving efficiencies and impacting the work we do here on the ground in Waldo County.
A strong food council incorporates diverse perspectives from throughout the community and across multiple sectors in order to build relationships and leverage resources toward the shared goal of strengthening the local food system.
